About University of Rochester, Simon Graduate School of Business

The Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester offers a boutique MBA program in which the students are taught by world class research faculty in an intimate setting.  The Simon School staff are dedicated to proving world class service from one-on-one counseling to a custom placement service that helps the students get a great start on a career.  Students have access to a worldwide alumni network of graduates going back more than five decades, with many of them having their own businesses.

Most challenging achievements and the future

The key challenge is to continue to provide a business education that is durable and yet offers the students the best start in a business career.  We meet this challenge by a process of continuous improvement of our curriculum and pedagogy.  In the last two years we have re-formulated our core course sequences to prepare our students better for internships,  introduced Experience Simon Modules, in which leading practitioners and managers to train our students in an innovative short module format, offered intensive business communication courses that closely tied to organization management, enhanced the experiential and participatory learning in our courses, and starting in the 2012-13 academic year we are adopting a new calendar that moves up the academic year to provide our students with more classes before starting an internship.

Differentiating factors

The Simon School faculty are the most research productive faculty in the world on a per-capita basis,  with top journals in accounting and finance, Journal of Accounting and Economics, and Journal of Financial Economic, started by the faculty at the school.   A distinguishing feature of the Simon MBA education is that all of our research active faculty teach in the MBA/MS or undergraduate programs, bringing the latest innovations to the classroom.  They have developed a novel framework, called the FACt (Frame – Analyze – Communicate) Approach to provide a structured way for our students to use these theories in real world and practical business decision making.
